Vintage: The 2019 vintage in the Margaret River region can be summarized as late, (mainly due to the cool Spring & Summer), low yielding, and with some disease pressure – Blocks required careful management and those that received early and careful leaf and shoot removal thrived. Longer “hang” (ripening) time was required for our southern Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon sites compared to our more northern located vineyards.
Winemaking: The fruit was softly pressed with only the highest quality juice used to create the final blend. The juice was then settled for a few days at 10⁰C before being racked off, inoculated, and fermented at an even rate to maximise fruit expression. When dry, most batches were clarified to remove the yeast lees before being chilled and stabilised. This wine was filtered only once prior to an early bottling. The 2016 vintage had lower than average yield but the smaller quantity showcased exceptional quality, a standard which the Margaret River region is renowned for.
TASTING NOTES
Colour: Very pale with a vibrant, light green rim.
Aroma: This is the very essence of Margaret River SSB; Semillon characters of herbs, lemongrass, melon and nectarine along with a twist of lanolin drive the blend with Sauvignon layers of lime zest, cut grass and passion fruit pulp adding a lovely lift.
Palate: Dry, juicy and refreshing with intense, long flavours.
